To cap off our summer, the Desert Plant Society of Vancouver had a fun potluck picnic. It’s one of the club’s favourite traditions, allowing us to chat, chill, and munch on delicious foods.

Before diving into the food, members met at Devan Greenhouses (28904 Fraser Hwy, Abbotsford) where they were given a tour by one of the owner. When the tour concluded, folks were let loose to wander, shop, and feed the goats at the petting zoo side of the business. After shopping to our hearts’ content, DPS members arrived at Dirk’s house where food was opened and shared with all. Everything was delicious and it was clear how much work was put into the homemade delights. While eating, members were open to explore Dirk’s property and enjoy his many, MANY plants! And once the food disappeared, DPS members split up. Some went home, but… the ones who stayed were taken to a mushroom farm where a really fun-guy (fungi) gave them a grand tour! They had a chance to see how the mushrooms we eat are grown and the various stages of their growth.

The best part of the day was that we happily welcomed new members who joined our club at the Show n Sale back in June. We hope you had fun and look forward to seeing you at meetings.
